Pacific Dunes (Bandon Dunes)

Tom Doak's links masterpiece on the Oregon coast. Raw, rugged, and widely considered the purest links in America.

The Vibe

Pacific Dunes is a riot of natural architecture. Gorse, massive blow-out bunkers, and towering sand dunes define the experience. It feels older than it is, perfectly mimicking the wild character of the great Scottish links but with a uniquely American Pacific Northwest scale.

The Vault Line — The Ground Game

Aerial attacks at Bandon are often foolish. The turf is firm fescue, meaning the ball will run for 30-50 yards on a low trajectory. Use the slopes and mounds to feed the ball toward the hole rather than aiming directly at the flag.

The Access Intelligence

Access Reality

Open - Public Resort

Completely public. The resort model is built for the 'golf purist'. There are no carts (walking only). Booking 12-14 months in advance is now standard for the peak summer window. Off-season (winter) is significantly cheaper but weather-dependent.

Tactical Strategy Guide

The 13th Hole Dunes

One of the most dramatic par 4s in the world. A massive dune blocks the view of the green from the left. You must challenge the right side to get a clear look, but the wind pushes you toward the sand.

The Insider FAQ

Is it walking only?

Yes. Bandon Dunes is a walking-only resort. Motorized carts are only available for those with permanent medical disabilities.

Which course should I play first?

Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes are the 'originals', but Pacific is generally ranked highest. Start there to see the best the property has to offer.

How do I get there?

Most fly into North Bend (OTH) or drive 2.5 hours from Eugene (EUG) or 4.5 hours from Portland (PDX).
