Why New Zealand Changed the Global Conversation

In 2015, Tom Doak opened Tara Iti on a Pacific dune north of Auckland. Within five years it ranked #19 in the world. New Zealand had been building quality courses for decades before that — Kauri Cliffs in 2000, Cape Kidnappers in 2004, Paraparaumu Beach going back to 1949. But Tara Iti confirmed what had been quietly understood: the terrain here is exceptional, and the architects who have worked in New Zealand have largely done it justice.
