The Vibe

Skibo Castle is more than a golf course; it is a lifestyle. As the home of The Carnegie Club, it offers a level of privacy and luxury that is virtually unmatched in the UK. The links course, refined by Tom Mackenzie and Donald Steel, winds along the Dornoch Firth with breathtaking views and a sense of total tranquility. It is a course where you feel like you have the entire world to yourself.

The Access Masterclass

How To Book

The Fortress: Skibo is a private members' club. Visitor play is virtually non-existent unless you are a guest of a member or staying on the estate. However, the club does occasionally allow "one-time experience" rounds for prospective members or through high-end luxury travel partners.

Insider Tip: If you are serious about playing Skibo, look for luxury golf tours that include an overnight stay at the Castle. It is the only reliable way for a non-member to access the fairways.

Logistics

2026 Green Fee

If you are able to secure an experience round, expect to pay in excess of £500. Membership itself is by invitation and carries significant initiation fees.

Closest Airport

Inverness Airport (INV) is roughly 50 minutes away. The club can arrange private transfers for guests staying on the estate.

Tactical Strategy

Embrace the Firth: Many holes run along the Dornoch Firth. The wind here is constant and often stronger than it feels in the shelter of the castle walls. Use the ground; the turf is firm and rewards low, running shots.

The 17th: A spectacular par 3 playing toward the water. It requires a brave shot over the shore. Take enough club to clear the beach, as the green is larger than it looks from the tee.

Insider FAQ

1. Is it better than Royal Dornoch?

It's a different experience. Dornoch is a historic championship links; Skibo is a private estate experience. Dornoch is widely considered the better "pure" golf course, but Skibo is the ultimate luxury retreat.

2. Can I visit the castle?

Only if you are a member or a guest staying on the estate. The grounds are strictly private and secured.

3. What is the dress code?

Traditional and smart. While they have modern facilities, the ethos of the Carnegie Club is rooted in classic Scottish estate life.
