Built on a deep bed of river gravel and sand, it is the only course in the Wellington region that remains genuinely firm and fast through the wettest winters. How To Book
Booking: Contact the club via their website or just turn up. It's a very friendly community club. They have a basic online booking system but a phone call is often better to gauge the day's conditions.
Location: 1 hour north of Wellington on State Highway 1. It's the perfect stop-off point if you're driving between Wellington and Taupo or Auckland.
The Vibe: The Otaki logo (featuring the Tiki) is iconic in NZ golf. The clubhouse is welcoming and offers great views over the course toward the Tararua Ranges.

The Back Nine Dunes
The back nine is where the real fun begins. The holes weave through significant sand dunes. On the par-4 12th, the fairway is wider than it looks, but the second shot is into a raised green that requires a precise club selection. Trust the yardage markers.
Managing the Firmness
Because the course drains so well, the greens can get very firm and fast in summer. Aim for the front edge and let the ball roll out. The rough is generally manageable, but the 'sand traps' (natural sandy areas) can be tricky to play out of.
