The Circular Wind: Muirfield's architecture means every 3 holes present a fundamentally different wind vector. Check the pin flags on adjacent holes constantly—the wind you feel on the tee is rarely the wind at the green.
The Bunkering: H.S. Colt's bunkers are steep and vertical. Do not attempt hero shots from the sand. Your only priority in a Muirfield bunker is lateral extraction.

Muirfield enforces a strict handicap limit of 18 for men and 24 for women. Valid digital certificates are checked by the starter.

Non-members may only play on Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding public holidays). These slots are highly coveted.
3. Is the legendary carvery lunch included?
Yes, if you book the 36-hole day ticket (£605). It is considered the best lunch in world golf, served in the spectacular dining room.
4. What is the dress code for the clubhouse?
Uncompromisingly formal. A tailored jacket and tie are strictly required for gentlemen at all times inside the public rooms.
5. Can we play a fourball?
Not traditionally. Muirfield expects rapid play (sub 3 hours). The primary format is alternate-shot (foursomes) or two-balls.
6. How do I secure a caddie?
Caddies must be requested at the time of your tee time booking. They are essential for navigating the blind spots and vertical bunkering.
7. Are women allowed to play?
Absolutely. The club updated its policies and welcomed female members in 2017. Lady visitors are fully welcome on visitor days.
8. How far in advance must I book?
Tee times disappear almost instantly. You must proactively monitor their diary a full 12+ months prior to your target date.
9. What happens if I miss the fairway?
Muirfield is famous for its punishing "first cut" rough. Missing the fairway by 3 yards often requires a wedge extraction sideways due to the fescue.
10. Are power carts permitted?
No. Muirfield is a walking-only links. Exceptions are only made for significant medical conditions with advanced clearance.
