Insider Tactical Briefing: On The Dell (5th hole), the white stone marker is moved by the greenkeeping staff every single morning to align with that day's pin position. The stone is your only reference - the green is completely hidden by the dune. Every experienced visitor makes the same mistake on their first round: they under-club. The hole plays 130-155 yards minimum into the prevailing Atlantic breeze. Check the stone position from the tee box, commit to a full club more than instinct says, and trust the dune to funnel the ball onto the green.

How To Book

Verified 2026 Fees: EUR 450 for the peak season (April 27 - October 16, 2026). Book online directly at lahinchgolf.com using the 'Book Tee' feature, or call +353 (0)65 708 1003.

Caddie Requirement: Lahinch mandates that all visitors playing the Old Course engage at least one caddie per group. If caddies are not pre-booked, the club will arrange a mandatory fore-caddie to accompany your group. This is not optional.

Lead Time Required: Given the course's extraordinary demand following the 2019 renovation, advance booking of 4-6 months is strongly recommended for peak season. Off-peak bookings (October-November, April) are more accessible on 4-6 week notice.

The Goat Forecast: Lahinch's resident goats are a genuine weather barometer - when they shelter by the clubhouse, incoming storms are typically 30-60 minutes away. This is not a myth; the club acknowledges it. Monitor the goats the evening before your round.

Logistics

2026 Green Fee

EUR 450 peak season (April 27 - October 16, 2026). Off-peak rates are significantly lower. Twilight rates after 4pm during long Irish summer evenings offer reduced pricing - enquire directly with the club when booking.

Getting There

Shannon Airport (SNN) - 45 minutes via N85 through Ennis. Car essential. Lahinch village itself has excellent accommodation within walking distance of the first tee, making a car strictly necessary only for airport transfer.

Shadow Gem: Lahinch Castle Course

The short 9-hole Castle Course shares the same spectacular dune landscape as the Old Course. Bookable same-day at minimal cost, it provides a genuine warm-up to the conditions and wind direction before tackling the Old Course. Highly recommended for first-time visitors.

Tactical Strategy Guide

The Dell (5th) - Stone, Club, Trust

The Dell is the most famous blind par-3 in world golf - and the one that most visitors photograph rather than execute correctly. The correct pre-shot routine: walk to the right side of the tee box, confirm the white stone position, note whether the stone is positioned left, centre, or right on the dune face, then aim directly at the stone and add a full club. The green is larger than any first-time visitor expects - the dune funnel actively helps balls find the putting surface. Aim at the stone. Trust the process.

The Klondyke (4th) - Lay Up, Score Better

The 4th at Lahinch is a genuine oddity: a blind par-5 with a massive dune ridge cutting across the fairway approximately 230 yards from the tee. The bold play - attempting to carry the dune - leaves a severely downhill lie for those who barely clear it. The smart play is a deliberate layup to 100 yards short of the dune, followed by a pitch to a receptive green. This approach statistically produces better scores than the aggressive carry attempt. It is counterintuitive and correct.
