The Vault Line
Insider Tactical Briefing: Cruden Bay has no online booking system - the club operates on a personal relationship model. Email elaine@crudenbaygolfclub.co.uk or call +44 (0)1779 812285 and expect to have a conversation before a booking is confirmed. This is deliberate: Bookings Secretary Elaine knows the course capacities and manages the tee sheet personally to ensure the experience isn't commercialised. Your booking conversation is also the best time to ask about caddie availability - caddies are not employed directly by the club, so enquiring early increases your chances significantly.

Tactical Strategy Guide
Book by Email - Have a Conversation
Cruden Bay's deliberate choice to forgo online booking is a quality-of-experience decision. When you email Elaine at elaine@crudenbaygolfclub.co.uk, mention your party's background, which courses you've played, and ask specifically about caddie availability during your preferred dates. This conversation approach means she can offer genuine alternatives if your first choice is taken - and occasionally, last-minute slots that haven't been published anywhere. Treat the booking process as a preview of the welcome that awaits at the course.
Topographic Trust - Use the Terrain
Cruden Bay's roller-coaster terrain is its defining characteristic - no two consecutive holes play at the same elevation. The key adaptation: trust the slopes rather than fighting them. Add a full club for uphill approach shots and remove two clubs for downhill tee shots where elevation drops significantly. The 8th hole - a dramatic downhill par-3 - plays 30-40 yards shorter than the yardage plate suggests due to elevation change. Every first-time visitor over-clubs this hole. When your caddie says fewer clubs, believe them.
