The Vibe
Doonbeg represents the fusion of authentic, rugged Irish links terrain with massive, American-style resort luxury. Originally routed by Greg Norman through some of the most towering sand dunes on the western seaboard, the course was heavily redesigned by Martin Hawtree after severe winter storms. The result is a visually explosive, relentless test of golf that traces the crescent of Doughmore Bay.
The routing is an out-and-back traditional links, but the scale is staggering. The par-3 14th hole, played completely exposed to the Atlantic wind, is a terrifying short hole that demands respect. When the wind howls off the ocean, Doonbeg requires absolute creativity and a mastery of the low, running shot.
The lodge itself is a masterpiece of luxury staging. Designed to look like a centuries-old estate, it actually provides vast, modern Ocean View suites with soaring ceilings, massive fireplaces, and deep soaking tubs. The Ocean View dining room offers some of the finest seafood in Clare, paired with an extensive, highly curated wine list.

The Access Masterclass
Vault Intel
Booking & Suites: The course is open to the public, but the primary draw is the stay-and-play packages. Securing an Ocean View suite during the peak summer months requires booking 6-9 months in advance. The suites are highly sought after by corporate groups and luxury syndicates.
Caddie Intelligence: Doonbeg boasts one of the most organized and elite caddie programs in the country. A caddie is essential here, not just for carrying the bag, but for finding balls in the heavy marram grass and reading the severe, subtle breaks on the Hawtree-designed greens.
